Creative Work in progress

It’s been a little while since I have posted anything but I am very happy to finally be able to post something and do so in connection with the latest book I have just started working on.

I have, for the time time, a temporary title for the story but it could very well change by the time I am done with the story so I will keep that under wraps for the time being. But, I can divulge that it is fantasy based and that the story’s main character is a female and is vampire. Her name is Hayden Parker and I am currently working on fleshing out her character a little more, giving her more of a stronger back story, more details to make her a little more real because I personally feel that she may, at this point, be a hard character to connect to and I’d like for her to be the kind of character readers can feel a connection to on some sort of level.

But, I would like to give everyone a little sneak peek into the first chapter of the first draft, a little taste of what I’ve written so far. So, sit back, get comfortable and enjoy the teaser:

RIP HAYDEN PARKER…NOT!

You know, it’s strange, watching your own funeral, kind of surreal and perhaps a little frightening as well because, you know that the body in that casket isn’t your own – if there even is a body in there to begin with – but some part of your brain tries to convince you that it is. It’s like your brain is trying to tell you that the ‘logical’, albeit completely crazy, explanation to what you’re seeing is that your spirit or essence or whatever it is you want to call it hasn’t moved on, hasn’t passed from this life to the next. It’s like it needs to see this to bring closure, that this is its way of accepting that what has happened is real.

But it’s not real. Well, the funeral that’s happening is very much real but, the body in the casket is not.

Yeah, I watched my own funeral happen, from afar of course. Jesus, could you imagine the chaos that would have caused if someone in the mass of black ensembles discovered the supposedly dead girl they were all there to pay their last respects to was standing among them, alive and well? I couldn’t help but laugh a little as that thought played in my mind.  My eyes scanned the people gathered, all dressed in black, all gathered around a black coffin set to be laid six feet under in an earthy grave, a priest standing at the head of it reading the last rites and saying a few words that, I was sure, were scripted because I sure as Hell didn’t know who he was. I’m sure you’re asking yourself why I’d be watching my own funeral and that’s a damn good question.

I’m dead of course, at least, that’s what my family believes and trust me, that’s a good thing. My family isn’t big on the ‘supernatural’ so they didn’t take too kindly to the discovery of a member of their family being a vampire. But, I’m not like your regular ‘run of the mill’ vampire. Difference with me is, I was born this way, ….

There you have it, a little teaser to the first chapter of my latest story. It’s all a work in progress and there is so much that can change but, I am pretty happy with what come crashing out of the mind thus far and I am quite excited to write this story.

I would absolutely love to hear your views on this, to hear what you think of the teaser. Thoughts, views and critiques are always welcome.

I really hope you’ve enjoyed reading this.
